Our readers have made How-To Geek one of the most popular technology websites in the world. Here’s a brief recap of the site’s origins, where we are now as we continue to innovate, and what our future holds.
We’ve Been Helping You Since 2006
How-To Geek was founded in 2006 as a resource to help the average person quickly and easily find the advice they need. We’ve changed and expanded a lot since then, but our guiding principle has remained the same.
Nowadays, How-To Geek is a team of over 80 people, serving millions of visitors every month. We’re the geeks you can turn to when your computer isn’t working, you need to do something technical, or you want advice on the latest gadgets, and we do it all in a simple and approachable way.
How-To Geek has been owned by Valnet since 2023, a global digital publishing and media investment company that also owns the technology websites Android Police, MUO, Pocket-lint, and XDA.
We Cover Everything From Android to Windows
How-To Geek has covered an array of technology since its inception, like web browsers, programming languages, and operating systems. We proudly still cover these and more; we’re constantly growing and our readers trust us. Now, our scope reaches far and wide to Desktop, Mobile, Web, Space, Gaming, Automotive, Hobbies, Streaming, and so much beyond.
We’re able to lead in these areas and provide informative and entertaining coverage in no small part thanks to our stellar editorial team—between us, we have over a century of professional technology experience. We’ve reviewed devices, filmed videos, hosted podcasts, and written tutorials.
Joe Fedewa, Nick Lewis, Sydney Butler, and Tim Brookes bring their specific expertise as editorial leads for the sections, while Joe Keeley and Jordan Gloor oversee the website from a strategic perspective. Team members like analytical guru Andrew Heinzman and image extraordinaire Lucas Gouveia are just as essential to the operation.
The team at How-To Geek is supported by Valnet, which provides us with advanced data tools and analysis, and gives us room to experiment. This means we can easily follow trends, understand what you want more of, and push into new areas we think you’ll enjoy.
We Do More Than Just How-To
How-to guides have always been in our bread and butter—it’s in our name, after all. Whether it’s learning how to use the latest Excel function or how to customize your Windows Start menu, we ensure that our steps are clear and concise, with plenty of annotated screenshots to make things easy to follow.
But we also do lots more than that. We review the latest smartphones, list the best movies and shows to stream, provide money-saving tips, and share unique ways to use your devices. It’s all part of our aim to make technology accessible and fun.

We also report the latest news, led by our news editor Corbin Davenport, providing our expert analysis so that you can make sense of the ever-changing technology landscape.
We bring the same level of quality to every article we write. Our gold-standard authors bring their real hands-on experience and knowledge, and our editorial team makes sure that every article is the best it can be before it reaches your eyes.
We Continue to Grow and Serve You
Technology is ever-changing, and so How-To Geek evolves with it. That’s why we launched two new sections recently:
- Automotive, delving into the latest cars and electric vehicles, exploring the cutting-edge innovations led by some of the world’s biggest companies.
- Space, staying on top of the latest happenings in our solar system and the technological developments pushing our planet forward.

We chose these areas because we identified that they would interest you, our audience. We drew on our existing team and hired new specialists, so you can expect the same dedication and care that we give to established sections like Linux and iPhone.
Some of our most popular articles this year have come from these two new sections, including a dive inside Honda’s battery breakthrough and how a new telescope lens could change astronomy. We’re excited to see how our Automotive and Space sections expand over the coming months alongside our long-established coverage areas.
You’re Part of the Site
Last year, the Valnet development team built the system for us to launch Threads, an area that lets us ask questions and get responses from the most important person: you. We’ve published hundreds of Threads and thousands of you have got involved, weighing in on the success of Windows 11, your favorite email app, and ads on streaming services.
You can even create your own Threads and solicit opinions from the How-To Geek community.
We also publish daily and weekly newsletters, led by our editor Cory Gunther. Our newsletters ensure you never miss out on the latest geek happenings—we send the best tips, tricks, and deals directly to your inbox. It’s free to sign up and you can unsubscribe at any time (but we think you’ll like it).
The Future of How-To Geek
How-To Geek continues to flourish. We have an incredible team, working hard every single day to bring you the latest news, advice, guides, and editorials. It’ll soon be our twentieth anniversary, and we’re showing no signs of slowing down. We’re grateful you’re here for the journey with us.
